Celebrity committed to supporting National National Women of Colors Cancer foundation
Musician Reggie Calloway, former Cincinnatian who now lives in Los Angeles, is directing his music and fame toward fighting breast cancer. He has committed to be an honorary ambassador with the National Women of Colors Cancer Foundation.
Calloway will record radio and television public service announcements and will do television interviews across the country.
"It's an honor for me to be able to work with the National Women of Colors Cancer Foundation for this incredible cause through Check Yourself/Pampering the Spirit," Calloway said. "I want to raise awareness for Pampering the Spirit ... that people understand the meaning of unconditional love."
"We have prepared and delivered about 250 or more Pamper the Spirit baskets which contain music, books, journals; anything to renew and refresh the spirit of the patients as well as the caregiver," said Deborah Green-Boone, founder of the foundation, based in North Avondale.
While a student at Kentucky State University in the mid-1970s, Calloway picked students to form the band Midnight Star. The group hit the charts with such hits as "Freak-A-Zoid" and "Victory" in the 1980s.
In 1983, the group's third album, "No Parking on the Dance Floor," sold more than 2 million copies.
